Our Vision and Eye Health exam is much more than just a prescription for glasses. We do a full and comprehensive examination of your eyes looking for any disease that can cause vision loss or damage to your eyes. For example, did your last doctor screen you for risk factors for macular degeneration? Or do a detailed exam of your corneal endothelium with a 450X specular microscope? A digital retinal photo to allow early detection of retinal disease? How about measuring your vision with an advanced laser instrument to detect distortions and aberrations to your vision and then have a customized lens to correct for them? Did your doctor spend more than 10 minutes evaluating your eyes? We spend on average 30 - 40 minutes testing your vision and eye health. Did you wait more than 20 minutes for your appointment? Many discount type offices only focus on the prescription for glasses or contact lenses. We will never be the cheapest eyecare in Redding as it is impossible to provide this much care and service and be the cheapest. You get what you pay for. We provide great care and value for our patients.
Our Special Technology
A few of the unique instruments to our practice are the QuantifEYE instrument which measures the amount of macular protective pigment. This helps determine if you are at greater risk for macular degeneration. We begin testing patients at age 30 so they can make changes to reduce their risk of macular degeneration before the onset of the disease.
Another special instrument is the Z-View Aberrometer / Autorefractor. This instrument measures the amount of prescription for your glasses and the amount of aberration in your vision. If you have aberrations in your vision it causes you to see halos, light streaks, flare around lights or a fuzzy focus to your vision. We use special custom iZon lenses to correct for your prescription and aberrations resulting in clearer and more comfortable vision. Regular lenses do not correct for the aberrations. We also utilize a Canon Digital Retina Camera which allows us to view the inside of your eye to determine if it is healthy. This is especially important if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol or any type of retina disease. This is much more comprehensive and comfortable for the patient than having to stare into a bright light for an extended period of time while the doctor looks inside the eye. It also gives us permanent photographic record to compare for changes in the future.
Another special instrument is the Konan Specular 450X Microscope which allows us to see the individual corneal endothelial cells. Corneal degenerations is a common disease causing reduced vision and ocular discomfort. Early detection and treatment is crucial to maintaining good vision.
A newer instrument that most of our patients love is a way to measure your eye pressure without the annoying eye puff test. Its fast accurate and you don't feel a thing.
